October 4, 2016You might think that computer maintenance, or at least keeping your computer running smoothly is complicated. The truth is, it doesn’t! There are some simple things that you can do make your life, and your computer’s easier.
Clean your computer! What we mean by this is that you should keep your computer free from dust and other debris. You don’t need to open it up. Just look at the vents and see if you have any dust or debris. Dust and other debris can cause your computer to run hot and affect the performance. Plus, a clean computer is nice to look at.
Use Windows tools. If you have a Mac we’ll have another article for that. Here are some built-in programs on your computer that you can use.
Disk Cleanup
It is a tool on your Microsoft Windows that allow you to free up disk space on your computer’s hard drive. It targets your computer’s hard drives for files that are unnecessary and removes them. Depending on your Windows version, go to search and type “Disk Cleanup”. Choose the hard drive you want cleaned up; check the files you want to delete. Rinse, repeat.
Disk Defragmenter
Go to search again and look for “Disk Defragmenter” if you are on Windows 7, or “Optimize” or “Defragment”. Choose “Analyze” and then if the drive is over 5 percent fragmented, hit the “Defragment Disk” or “Optimize”. Wait for it to finish and you’re done. You can also choose to do it on a scheduled basis. Choose “Configure Schedule” for Windows 7 or “Configure” at the bottom for Windows 10. Once you schedule it will do it on its own. Of course, your computer needs to on when it is scheduled to run though.
See, that wasn’t too hard. You don’t have to spend money to get this done, do it yourself. If you have problems, don’t hesitate to contact us at MY-PC-ER.
