Viruses come from many different sources and cause different levels of infection. The best way to avoid a virus would be to never touch a computer, but that is hardly ever an option nowadays so here are a few tips to help you keep your computer clean:
- Stay away from questionable sites.
Questionable sites come in many disguises- often claiming free or heavily discounted prices on expensive hardware or software. Online streaming sites that show copyrighted movies for free. Pornography websites also tend to house ads with viruses.
2. Don’t click on everything!
If you get an email with an offer that seems too good to be true- it probably is.
3. Use an antivirus program on your computer.
An antivirus program is no replacement for careful behaviour, but it can serve as a defense against viruses if they do make it to your computer.
4. Block them before they get to your computer.
There are many systems that can be implemented to block viruses before they arrive at your computer such as firewalls, web filters and even DNS filters.
