July 28, 2014The Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview has premium features together with the special business features in Windows 8.1. This means that with the Windows 8.1 Enterprise Preview, the user is getting the full shebang. The users can download either the 32-bit or the 64-bit versions of the Windows 8.1 Preview. As per the Microsoft website, the user will need 16 GB of free space to install the 32-bit version and 20 GB free space to install the 64-bit version.
This preview should be installed only in a test computer, as this version will stop working on 14 January 2014. Apart from this, Microsoft says that after the preview expires, the users will not be able to upgrade to the licensed version of Windows. The Microsoft website says that there is always some risk involved in using the preview of Windows 8.1, so it is recommended to test it on lab and other non-critical computers.
Windows 8.1 will be a free download and it will be released to the general-public later this year. Superficially it smoothes over some of the concerns that the users had with the new tiled, touch screen interface in the Windows 8 operating system. Many users complained about the missing Start button in the Windows 8 version. The Windows 8.1 brings back the Start button and the users will have more control over the look of the Start screen. This also offers the ability to have the computer start in desktop mode, instead of the tiled screen.
On top of that, the Windows 8.1 adds many other features including some new apps, changes to the way apps are displayed, changes to the way Windows synchronizes your files and many other key functions.
The other features that are added by the Windows 8.1 Enterprise are listed below,
- Ability to side load business apps
- A way to make bootable version of Windows 8.1 on USB drive to minimize security risks
- Enhancements to virtual desktop
- Better ways to control access to the different available apps
